Surf Camp Morocco: Taghazout or Tamraght?

Taghazout and Tamraght are the two best-known surf villages in Morocco, a few minutes apart on the Atlantic coast north of Agadir. Most people looking for a surf camp in Morocco end up choosing between them. Here is how they compare, so you can pick the one that suits you.

Taghazout: the famous surf village

Taghazout is where Moroccan surfing became famous. The village sits right on the point breaks, with Hash Point in front of the houses and Anchor Point a short walk away. The main street is full of cafés, surf shops and people coming back from the water. It is lively, social and perfect if you want to be in the middle of the surf scene.

  • Walk to Hash Point and Anchor Point
  • Lots of cafés, restaurants and surf shops
  • Busy, social atmosphere, especially in winter

Tamraght: the calmer village next door

Tamraght is a smaller village just next to Taghazout, a little closer to Agadir. Life is slower and the streets are quieter, but you are still only minutes from the same surf spots. Devil's Rock, a beach break with peaks for every level, is about 5 minutes away. It suits people who want to surf every day and relax in a calmer place in the evening.

  • Quieter streets and a more local feel
  • About 5 minutes from Devil's Rock
  • Minutes from Taghazout when you want to go out

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose Taghazout if you want the classic surf-village experience, nightlife at the cafés and the point breaks at your door.
  • Choose Tamraght if you prefer a calmer, more intimate base and do not mind a short drive to the waves.
  • Learning to surf? Either works: lessons happen at the beach breaks that suit beginners, and the camp drives you there.
